At today’s event, Apple has refreshed almost its entire Mac line, introducing an all new iMac. “There’s an entire computer in there,” Phil Schiller said as he pointed to the iMac’s tiny 5mm edge.
The new iMac comes in two sizes 21.5 inches and 27 inches with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 for the 21″ and 2560 x 1440 for the 27″. Both versions have a 178-degree viewing angles.
Inside you will find a Core i5 or i7 processors, up to 3TB of storage, and four USB 3.0 ports. Today, Apple has also introduced a new Fusion Drive, a 128GB SSD and a 1TB or 3TB hard drive that are,”fused together with software.” The new Apple Fusion Drive is a single drive, where the OS and apps are stored on the SSD and everything else on the HDD.
The 21.5-inch iMac is available with a 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.2 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M for a suggested retail price of $1,299 (US); and with a 2.9 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M for a suggested retail price of $1,499 (US). The 21.5-inch iMac will be available in November through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.
The 27-inch iMac is available with a 2.9 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M for a suggested retail price of $1,799 (US); and with a 3.2 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX for a suggested retail price of $1,999 (US). The 27-inch iMac will be available in December through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.
