There are sneaker releases, and then there was the Nike MAG launch in 2011. Without as much as a hint, Nike produced Marty McFly’s fictional high-top from Back to the Future II and auctioned off 1,500 pairs on eBay, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. In the end, sneaker fans, film aficionados and celebrities spent nearly $6 million to claim a piece of history. However, there was one problem with the release: the futuristic kicks lacked their key feature. But it seems that Nike will try to fix this problem, and bring the iconic Power Laces in 2015.
At a recent appearance at the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab space in New Orleans, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield confirmed that Power Laces are on the way next year. “Are we gonna see Power Laces in 2015? To that, I say yes!,” Hatfield said.
Coincidence or not, in Back to the Future II, the Power Laces Nikes were hypebeasts’ kicks of choice in 2015 so the release seems to line up. It’s not clear if Nike will release a brand new Power Lace-equipped version of the MAGs or it will be some sort of an add-on.
