You know Blip.fm? Its the place where you can connect with other people interested in the same music and you can discover new music. It’s pretty wicked, i use it from time to time, and now i can have it on my iPhone. The app is called Boombox and it does not have all the functions of the web version of Blip.fm, but you can still browse their database for your favorite music and listen to it on the go.
The app is actually pretty nice and useful, but it would be even nicer if i could login to my Blip.fm account and interect with Blip.fm as i would do in a browser. The app is free, in the iTunes appstore, but if you want to use it on EDGE or 3G, you pretty much need to get Boombox Pro and it will cost you $2.99.This pretty much sucks, if you ask me, but in the same time im pretty much all the time on WiFi with my iPhone so…
First time you will load the app it will prompt you with a message and it will ask you if you want the app to locate you. Im not sure why it ask you for that, because im not aware of any geo-tagging or some sort of function on blip.fm but than again im not a heavy user. Do you know why they ask you for that? Let us know…. Next it will prompt you with another message which will inform you about the 2G/3G problem. You can upgrade to Boombox Pro from within the app, or you can choose not to upgrade (duhhh).
Next screen youll see, its the actual Boombox UI, which is not bad at all.You can search for you’re favorite songs by tapping on the bigass search bar at the top of the screen. By the way, this app only runs in landscape mode. So yeah, it’s a bigass search bar.
When you tap on the search bar, you will be taken to another screen where you can search for the song you want to listen to. Pretty straight forward. You will get the results from their data base and all you need to do is to tap on the song you want to listen. You can listen to it on the search screen or you can tap “Back” on the upper right corner and go back to the boombox screen. At the bottom of the search screen, you will see something pretty strange. It’s an add for “Christian Videos” and if you tap on that google logo next to it, you will be taken to a new page with all sorts of Biblical stuff. Weird and really not necessary but…. Depending on your location, you might see a different ad, and also this ad might not be there in the “PRO” version.
This app has a function that i dont understand: Playlists. You can tap at the end of the search bar at the icon that looks , well , like a playlist and you will be taken to yet another screen which is really confusing. You will get a blank screen with “Playlist” and “Top Songs” and you can edit the playlist, but when u tap on that button, there is nothing to edit. Oh well, maybe i cant figure it out because its 7:00 AM , or maybe i am that stupid, but if u figure it out, let us know…
