In making a contribution to The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, designer Marc Newson and Apple‘s Jony Ive have collaborated on a special (RED) edition of the Leica M to be auctioned off at Sotheby’s.
FSM EXCLUSIVE DEAL Featuring the likes of a full-format CMOS sensor, high performance processor and Leica APO-Summicron M 50mm f/2 ASPH lens, the (RED) camera is the culmination of 2,149 hours of work by 55 engineers on nearly 1,000 prototype parts and, ultimately, 561 different models. The results are prototypical Ive thanks to a machined aluminum body and rounded anodized aluminum outer shell – a design Ive believes could fetch as much as $6 million USD. The one-of-a-kind (RED) Leica M is set to hit Sotheby’s on November 23 alongside a bevy of additional (RED) products.
