De La Soul Releases A ‘Thank You/Sorry’ Audio Letter For Fans. Still No Word On The Pirated Copies They Gave Away

de-la-soul

On Valentines Day, pioneering Hip Hop group De La Soul gave away for free their entire catalog in honor of next month’s 25th anniversary of their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising. As usual, massive giveaways like this come hand in hand with the affiliated issues. First the dropbox links fans received didn’t work. Second, people did not receive ( some still didn’t receive ) the download links for days or received download links for an incomplete catalog. I for one didn’t get a link to download the Remixes, Instrumentals & Rarities folder. But the biggest issue that we encountered ( and slowly other major news outlets covered the story ) was that, De La sent pirated albums to fans. The group did no comment on this issue yet, even though they’ve released an audio letter for fans today regarding the giveaway.

To: Our friends and fans

We want to thank you all for making our Valentine’s Day extra special this year! The love was tremendous. The kind words made sharing feel worth it, (more than ever) thank you! For any difficulty or delay in the process, we send our sincere apology. Damn! It was crazy, but nonetheless, a success. You guys showed up, and even with the minor delays you were patient and handled it like champs. Your support definitely helped turn the volume up… “This is still the Daisy Age”

If you signed up and have not yet received your links, don’t worry you WILL get them. Our team is working hard to make sure that no one is left out. You’re Welcome.

Much love y’all,

Pos, Dave & Mase
