As you know, we review lots of cases on FSM, of all shapes and sizes. As you also know, if you have read any of my work in particular, is while I have an appreciation for a good case design, I love the feel of a naked phone. That’s why I was particularly excited about reviewing this case/wallet combo from Dodo cases.

If you’re like me, you carry your iPhone in your front jeans pocket when you’re traveling out and about. This can prove problematic with sweat and such that may occur during your day to day travels. Not to mention, who wants lint all up in their headphone jack?

Obviously a traditional case would help with this, but for those who don’t want to sully their iPhone with such garish things, a sleeve type case is perfect. Just slip your phone in and it’s protected from the world… But when your ready to use it bam, naked bliss.

What sets the dodo durables case apart from the rest isn’t only its construction and durability, which I’ll touch more on in a minute, but its practicality.

With apps such as 1Password and the like that keep all of our important info safely in the cloud, bulky wallets are less and less important for daily use. Aside from that, they are proven to cause back pain, and are out and out just plain uncomfortable to sit on.

The Durables case steps up with handy pockets for your important “must have documents”, credit cards, and a bit of cash. All of these things slip in around your iPhone and in the end, the footprint in your front pocket is only marginally bigger then it was with the iPhone hanging around unprotected.

As far as workmanship, the case is top notch. It’s a wax coated hard canvas outer with a felt interior. The bottom of the wallet ( where your credit cards and such go ) is wrapped in high quality deerskin leather. All of this is expertly sewn together by skilled craftsmen in beautiful San Francisco, CA.

I’ve been using one for about a week now and I absolutely love it. My only real qualm about it was having to slide my phone in and out to see notifications and such, but it’s such an effortless and trivial task that it’s already worked into my muscle memory. What will be great is when my Pebble arrives, as then pulling the phone from my pocket will be a significantly less often occurrence.

If you’re interested in a sleeve style case, this one should be at the top of your short list. You can pick one up for your iPhone 4/4S or iPhone 5 on their site for $49.
