iPhone 4G: High Definition And 3D Rendering Thanks To DirectX 10 And OpenGL 3.2

The iPhone is not alone anymore on the top of the hill, and all his enemies were born in the last couple of months. So , it is only natural that Apple will pimp out their game with the new iPhone.

Some interesting rumors and speculation dropped on out front porch today. Imagination Technologies, Apple’s official GPU supplier for iPhone, has introduced the new PowerVR SGX545 GPU. The new GPU is the first and only DirectX10.1 capable embedded graphics IP core available for immediate licensing. SGX545 will also deliver OpenGL ES 2.x and OpenGL 3.2 to deliver class leading 3D graphics performance, and will also support OpenCL 1.0 full profile capability which will enable mobile and embedded applications to take maximum advantage of the capabilities offered by these GPU APIs for both 3D graphics and general purpose applications.

It  can handle up to 40 million polygons per second (1 Gpixels / sec) up to 200MHz, compared to 28 million that iPhone 3Gs can handle. (almost 2 times faster).
