HOW TO: Jailbreak iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G Running iOS 4 Final W/ Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2 [Mac & Windows ]

A few hours ago Apple pushed iOS 4 final, which has the same build number as the last GM release. That means that… yep, you guessed it, you can jailbreak it with redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2. Here’s how you do it, on both Mac and Windows.

Supported devices:

  • iPhone 3G
  • iPod Touch 2G ( except MC models )

What you’ll need:

  • iTunes 9.2 installed on your Mac/PC
  • iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4 final installed
  • iOS 4 GM downloaded on your desktop
  • redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2 Mac/PC

NOTE: the process is exactly the same on both platforms. On windows you might have to use redsn0w as administrator…

How to:

1. Connect your iOS device to your Mac/PC via USB…

2. Load redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2 and click browse. Select firmware 4.0 GM ( NOT final build )  from your desktop and click next…

3. An automated process will start which will patch your kernel…

4. On the next screen, you will need to select the packages you want to install. You will select Cydia and (optional) choose to enable multitasking, wallpapers, verbose mode and battery percentage

5. On the next screen you will be asked to put your iOS device in DFU mode. Follow the instructions on the screen…

6. Now, another automated process will begin, which will jailbreak your iOS device…

7. After reboot, load Cydia>Manage> Sources> Edit> Add and add the following source: http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7

8. That’s it. Enjoy
