There are smartphones, smartwatches, smart homes, smart… coats? Yep, you read that right. Motiif is developing the world’s first smart trench coat, simply named ‘M’.

The trench coat will be waterproof and will offer a built-in 4G data connection and a smart phone charger. The company will also release an app that will pair with the coat and will provide weather information and tell you when to wear the coat.

The coat’s data connection will be powered by Karma’s pay-as-you-go network and it come with a 1GB free for the first 3 months. After those 3 months ( or if you use the free GB )  you’ll pay $14 for each 1GB of data used ( on request ). Karma uses Sprint’s 4G network and works in 80 major U.S. cities, that approximately covers 135 million people across the country. On average, you’ll see speeds of around 3 to 6 Mbps when downloading. There can be spikes of 10 Mbps or higher. For uploading, our speed can reach 1.5 Mbps. For more info about Karma, check out the official website.

M’s internal charging dock will work with the iPhone 4/4s, iPhone 5/5s/5c and the Samsung Galaxy S 3/4. To charge the device, all you’ll have to do is slide the phone into the coat’s chest pocket and connect it to the charging dock. The coat will offer enough juice to charge the phone approximately 3 times, and to recharge the coat ( did you ever think, that one day you’ll say ” hey, i need to recharge my coat ” ? ) all you’ll need to do is hang it on a hanger with its included wireless charging pad.

The ‘M’ is still in development, but it should be available as soon as Februrary 2014. Price: TBA.
