By now we all know about the advantages of Apple’s AirPlay which was introduced in iOS 4. What isn’t often discussed are the few disadvantages AirPlay has when it’s pitched against the likes of BlueTooth when utilised for music.
For me, there are 2 snags to AirPlay: 1 – Wifi connection is a must, 2 – I don’t have an AppleTV in every room. Enter, Pear.
Pear is a simple device that replaces your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad on the docking station. It has built-in BlueTooth 2.1+ EDR and remembers up to eight different devices. Simply dock, power on, pair the once and your are ready to play music through your now BlueTooth enabled speakers.
The design itself is minimalistic and employs the same style of glowing logo we have become accustomed to with Apple-related products – except in this case it’s a Pear. In my opinion it bears a fleeting resemblance to the iHub 2 USB station that was knocking around a year ago.
