RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-2 Released. Added Battery Percentage And Verbose Boot Mode Options [Mac & Windows]

Just a few minutes ago, we told you that the iPhone DevTeam will release redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2 and now the tool is live. The new update adds two new options:

  • Enable battery percentage
  • Verbose boot mode

The tool will be particularly useful for iPhone 3G and iTouch 2G users who will be able to activate iOS 4 functions intentionally blocked by Apple. The Verbose boot mode, explains what it’s happening each step of the way and lets you know if anything’s wrong so you can fix it, or submit any bugs to the DevTeam.

The redsn0w beta has been updated for 4.0GM on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non-MC version). Multitasking and homescreen wallpaper are turned on by default (Apple doesn’t normally allow this on these 2 devices). You can deselect these features if you choose.

Just like our other betas, this one intentionally doesn’t “hactivate” the iPhone. Please wait for Apple’s public release of 4.0 for that part of it.

YOU SHOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS BETA SOFTWARE IF YOU RELY ON A CARRIER UNLOCK. That’s because the beta redsn0w works only if your device has already been upgraded to the stock 4.0GM IPSW from Apple, which contains a baseband update. If you installed that IPSW, you’ve already lost the carrier unlock until the next planned release of ultrasn0w and blacksn0w.

If you don’t know how to use redsn0w, check our Mac tutorial. Process identical on both platforms ( Mac & Windows )

NOTE: if you used any previous beta releases of redsn0w for iOS 4.0 GM , and you need any of the features that 0.9.5b5-2 brings, you don’t need to re-jailbreak. Just re-run redsn0w again and enable or disable any of the options. DO NOT reinstall Cydia in the process

NOTE: iOS 4.0 should be officially pushed by Apple on Monday. We suggest you don’t update as soon as iTunes prompts you about the new update. You should wait and allow devs to push stable jailbreaking tools. We will keep you informed. Stay tuned…
