HOW TO: Save Your iPhone 3G And iPod Touch 2G’s SHSH Blobs

We showed you how to save your SHSH blobs for your iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 3G. But big surprise now you can ( and you better do it ) save your SHSH blobs for your iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G as well.

Why? See DevTeam’s explanation after the jump…

Those of you with jailbroken iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G devices may now have noticed Cydia starting to save your SHSH blobs too, just like it does for iPod Touch 3G and later devices. That’s because starting with 4.0, Apple started putting a “soft SHSH blob check” in the firmware. The SHSH blob check is very real in the sense that if iTunes can’t get your blobs (because the Apple signing window has closed), the restore will error out. But it’s “soft” in the sense that those devices can always use redsn0w or PwnageTool to get past the error (the bootroms themselves for those devices don’t require blobs to be in the firmware files, unlike the newer devices).

So, Cydia is doing this to allow you to continue to use iTunes to restore to 4.x on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2g outside of Apple’s signing window without needing to use redsn0w or PwnageTool to get around Apple’s annoying new restriction.

How to save your blobs:

1. You can load Cydia and, on the main page, scroll down and tap on the button that says ‘Make my like easier, thanks!’ . That’s it. Now you will get a message that says ‘ This device has a pending TSS request’ .

If you don’t want to wait on Cydia to save your blobs, use method no. 2

2. Use TinyUmbrella. It’s fast, it’s quick, it’s painless. If you don’t know how to use it, check out this tutorial.

NOTE:

1. too late to save blobs for iOS 4.0. But it is not too late to save them for 4.0.1

2. restoring to a pre-4.0 on iPhone 3G and iTOuch 2G doesent require any blobs. So restoring to 3.x isn’t affected.
