Apple CEO Steve Jobs, before he died, dreamed of designing an iCar, according to board member Mickey Drexler.
Speaking at a recent Fast Company conference on innovation, Drexler, the CEO of J. Crew, said Jobs reimagined a complete overhaul of the auto industry.
“Look at the car industry; it’s a tragedy in America. Who is designing the cars?” Drexler said. “Steve’s dream before he died was to design an iCar . . . And it would’ve been probably 50 percent of the market. He never did design it.”
After Jobs’ death from cancer last October, Apple on its Web site pointed to his impact on consumers and wheels, noting that more than 90 percent of new cars sold in the U.S. have an option for iPod connectivity.
